Based on the character of Fishke der Krumer (Fishke the Lame) created by the Yiddish writer Mendele Mocher Sforim, “King of Beggars” follows the adventures of Fishke, from humble bathhouse attendant in a late 16th century Russian shtetl to leader of a fighting brigade of Jewish outcasts. An epic tale about the rise and fall of a Jewish warrior and his struggle against both a divided Jewish community and his Russian military masters. Mature content.
