The Year My Parents Went on Vacation
Pittsburgh Premiere
Director: Cao Hamburger
Brazil, 2006, 35mm, 105 minutes
Portuguese, Yiddish and German with subtitles
In 1970,  Brazil was under a military dictatorship, but its people were able to unite and cheer passionately for their Pelé–led, World Cup soccer team. This moving film beautifully captures the essence of the times as told through the eyes of a 12-year-old Jewish boy whose parents must “go on vacation” in order to avoid being arrested.
