Based on a true story, Three Mothers follows the lives of Sephardic triplets born in Alexandria in 1943. Because their mother worked in the palace, the girls were blessed in person by King Farouk of Egypt, thus bestowing a false sense of royalty on the infant girls. In flashbacks spanning six decades, the women reveal truths about their family history in hopes of living up to their auspicious beginning. Written and directed by Dina Zvi-Riklis, whose mother was one of the real-life triplets, Three Mothers has been described as “a chick flick that men will like!” Three Mothers won awards for Best Cinematography and Best Costumes at the 2006 Israeli Academy Awards and was nominated for six others, including Best Picture.
