Don't Miss the Fall Redd Up, Sunday, October 12!
On Sunday, October 12, Squirrel Hill residents and businesses will again take to the streets to pick up litter and improve the appearance of the neighborhood. In its third year, the biannual cleanup is organized by the Homewood/Squirrel Hill/Point Breeze Redd Up Coalition, a partnership of residents from the three communities, neighborhood and environmental organizations, community businesses, City Council and the Department of Public Works. For more information, and to register for the cleanup,

To support its far-reaching efforts, the Coalition has launched its Buck-A-Bag Campaign. Our goal this fall is to raise $2,500; that's one dollar for each of the 2,500 bags of litter (25 tons) collected. Proceeds will benefit the Coalition's second annual Community Passover Seder, which brings together Pittsburgh's African-American and Jewish communities. To "buy" a bag, click here.

Green Bar/Bat Mitzvah Online Guide
Are you planning a Bar or Bat Mitzvah and want to do it in an environmentally friendly way? The UJF Environmental Committee is hard at work, researching green ways to plan Bar/Bat Mitzvah celebrations, and gathering case studies for our online guide. Have you or are you about to plan an event with an eye toward the environment? We'd love to hear about it, and possibly use it in our guide. To have someone contact you about your green event ideas, contact Lisa Premo at 412-992-5214 or lpremo@ujfpittsburgh.org.
Energy Audits
The Environmental Committee has initiated a coordinated energy audit program aimed at energy and cost savings for religious institutions. Temple Emanuel of the South Hills and Beth Shalom Congregation in Squirrel Hill conducted their energy audits in late February and are already reaping the rewards. For more information on how your organization can participate in our energy audit initiative, contact Lisa Premo at 412-992-5214 or lpremo@ujfpittsburgh.org.
